Iranian thinker Hujjat al-Islam wal-Muslimin Dr. Seyyed Abolhassan Navab suggested that the Islamic world should pioneer in the elimination of illiteracy.
The Iranian thinker went on to say, "To achieve unity, we have to tread different theoretical and practical paths. Thus, we would emphasize common values, based on which to have Islamic cooperation. There are many patterns in the world, some of which we can use. The patterns may be like forming common bank, and common cultural center; for instance, Islamic Development Bank as common bank of the world of Islam and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), as common cultural institution of the world of Islam, and Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), which is known for universities of the world of Islam."
Navab noted that common trade market is a necessity today; Islamic countries’ removing tariffs and promotion of trade in Islamic states should be regarded as a common value and shared ground, soon needed to start working. Islamic countries’ trade should be without any tariff and efforts should be made theoretically in Jeddah Jurisprudential conference to bring jurisprudential regulations and interests closer to each other and Islamic schools of thought and common views on Islamic Jihad should be approximated to be closer in terms of jurisprudential issues.
In universities, seminaries and in Jeddah Jurisprudential Conference, at various levels, he noted, we should have scientific, cultural and academic cooperation; joint action and cooperation among Islamic countries may be promising. Such cooperation can be continued in the political, social, economic, cultural, sports and women and youth affairs.
The area that the thinker suggested the Islamic world should pioneer is the elimination of illiteracy, highlighting: "It is from the Islamic world, we must deploy all our strength and all our efforts in a plan. This requires an effort that the Islamic Development Bank must cooperate with. Islamic countries must cooperate. Academics and scientists must cooperate so that illiteracy does not form in the Islamic world.
