The grand mufti of al-Azhar University has condemned as ‘disappointing’ the international response to Israeli crimes committed in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb, in a meeting with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the ongoing situation in Gaza is threatening years of endeavors to bridge the gap between the east and the west, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He deplored the international community’s response to the Israeli crimes against the Gaza Strip, despite the western nations, as disappointing and shameful.
Grand mufti of al-Azhar hailed the popular support for the Palestinian people in Gaza and said,” We are witness to the supportive stance of the people in the west, the US and even the Jewish community towards the Palestinians and their demand for ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.”
The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for his part praised the al-Azhar grand mufti’s support for the Gaza Strip pressing the international community to respect the rights of the Palestinians and alleviating their sufferings.
Guterres warned against alarming growth of Islamophobia across the globe.
