Francesca Albanese, speaking at a press briefing urged for “an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, an end to the illegal Israeli control over Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, and the deployment of forces to maintain peace and stability in the region.”
Albanese said,” The pace and intensity of the spread of violence to the rest of the occupied territories confirm that no Palestinian is safe under absolute Israeli control.”
She described the present conditions in Gaza as “worse than previously estimated, with serious long-term consequences, as the victims she met suffered catastrophic injuries and witnessed the killing of their family members.”
The UN rapporteur indicated that the humanitarian measures applied so far, such as airdrops and sea passages, “are merely a palliative for what is urgently needed and legally due, and that these measures are completely insufficient to mitigate the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza,” stressing the importance of the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees “UNRWA”.
According to Palestine Health Ministry the number of Palestinians killed as a result of more than seven months of Israeli killing campaign in the besieged Gaza since October 7 is nearly 34,400.
