5 May 2024 - 14:51

The Palestinian president’s advisor on the international affairs, said the Palestinian people are struggling to protect their existence in the face of Israel’s genocidal, displacement campaign.

Riyad al-Maliki, Advisor to President Mahmoud Abbas on International Affairs, said today the Palestinian people are engaged in a struggle to protect their existence, facing a brutal and heinous genocide waged by a ruthless colonial power.

Speaking on behalf of President Abbas at the 15th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Banjul, Gambia, al-Maliki emphasized that the ongoing Israeli genocide marks the latest episode in the ongoing Nakba against the Palestinian people, a plight that commenced 75 years ago.

Al-Maliki pointed out that that "for nearly seven months, Israel has intensified its atrocities against the Palestinian people in all regions, including its systematic colonization and displacement campaign in the occupied West Bank and, particularly, in Jerusalem."

He underscored that "Israel's continuation of these crimes is facilitated by the military, financial, and political support it receives from complicit states, which have chosen to collude in genocide rather than defend universal human rights and the international rules-based order."

"For over six months," al-Maliki continued, "the world has watched as Israel relentlessly dismantles our shared humanity and the principles of the international order through its genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people."

Al-Maliki called on member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to intensify efforts to halt the ongoing genocide in Gaza, urging them to press for an end to this brutality and to hold Israel accountable for its continuous aggression against the Palestinian people.

He expressed the Palestinian people's gratitude for the stances taken by countries that have opposed this brutal aggression, including the Republic of South Africa, which filed a case against Israel in the International Court of Justice, leading to the ICC issuing two sets of provisional measures to halt the genocide in Gaza. He stressed the importance of their implementation.

Al-Maliki also commended Nicaragua for filing a case against Germany for complicity in the genocide, emphasizing the significance of joint efforts by member states to halt the ongoing genocide in Gaza and ensure accountability for Israel, the occupying power.
