Cleric calls for global confrontation with Islamophobia

A senior cleric from Sri Lanka has called on the international community for a universal mobilization to confront extremist ideologies.


Sheikh Abdul Khaliq Mohammad, the deputy of All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama, delivering speech at World Muslim Scholars Constitution Summit in Istanbul made proposals on ways for confrontation with Islamophobia across the globe, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
Among the proposals by Sheikh Abdul Khaliq Mohammad were confrontation with misconceptions about Islam, appointing committed people as politicians and also endeavoring for promotion of coexistence among people.
 
He referred to the practical measures taken by his country in line with combatting Islamophobia and named amicable meetings, visiting Hindu and Buddhist cemeteries and also publication of books to eliminate misunderstanding on Islamic concepts as his proposed solutions to combat Islamophobia.
 
Sheikh Abdul Khaliq Mohammad also referred to the measures already taken by the Sri Lanka Muslim scholars to tackle the anti-Islam deviations.
 
He referred to the history of provocation and violence against Muslims in Sri Lanka all of which triggered by misunderstandings that had no relation to the Muslims among them extremism and terrorism.
 
The deputy of All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama hailed the coexistence among people in Sri Lanka.
 
Sheikh Abdul Khaliq Mohammad expressed his views at World Muslim Scholars’ Constitution Summit organized by Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs.
 
The meeting was held on May 13-14 with hundreds of religious leaders and elites from across the world of Islam discussing the issues challenging Muslims.
