A massive funeral procession was held in the city of Birjand, South Khorasan province, as thousands of mourners gathered to bid farewell with President Ebrahim Raeisi and his companions martyred in the Sunday helicopter crash.
The bodies arrived in Birjand on Thursday morning for the people to pay tribute to their representative at the Assembly of Experts, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
The mourners held placards that read messages of gratitude for the president popular for his services in small towns and remote areas.
Meanwhile people from adjacent provinces also arrived in Birjand to attend the funeral procession.
A day earlier millions of people participated in the funeral ceremony held in the capital Tehran as the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei prayer over the bodies in Tehran University.
The body of President Raeisi will be carried to the holy city of Mashhad for another part of the funeral procession and burial at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in the afternoon.
