Palestinian UN membership should not entail Israel recognition

Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh rejected "To give delegation for any Palestinian leadership that wants to mess with the Palestinian National right."

Beirut - Taqrib News Agency (TNA) -  Haniyeh's remarks came just as Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas is preparing to head for the United Nations to request full membership at the international body.

Haniyeh said in a speech to a meeting of the Legislative Council in Gaza, "There is no authorization for any Palestinian leadership that wants to mess with the Palestinian National right, nor mandate any Palestinian representation that would make concessions to the historic land of Palestine, particularly the right of return".

He explained, "From this point we refuse to go in that direction and at the same time we want to make it clear that the issue of Palestinian statehood is a requirement and a Palestinian right . We do not stand as an obstacle upon the foundation of a Palestinian state with full sovereignty on the Palestinian land, but we want that without offering any concessions on the rights and constants of the Palestinian people."

Haniyeh asserted that "We are for the establishment of a Palestinian state on any part of the freed of the Palestinian land that is agreed upon by the Palestinian people without recognition of Israel, without giving up any inch of land of historic Palestine, in this context."
