Medical evacuation from Gaza under “abrupt halt”, WHO

29 May 2024 - 13:09

The World Health Organization (WHO) says the medical evacuation in Gaza are under “abrupt halt” over the limitations imposed over intensification in the besieged strip.

WHO spokesperson Margaret Harris speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday that medical evacuations in Gaza are under “abrupt halt” while 10,000 people need to be referred out.

She said that an extra 1,000 critically ill and injured patients, unable to leave Gaza, are in need of evacuation to receive the much-needed medical treatment elsewhere and added that no evacuation has been done since May 7.

She noted that “a number of” patients have lost their lives while waiting to get approval for their referral and added that there is no exact number of how many people died since the evacuations halted.

The number of Palestinian civilians killed by Israeli bombings since the regime has launched its genocidal war on October 7 has increased to more than 36,000.

More than 81,000 people have been injured due to the incessant bombings with 11,000 others remain unaccounted for.

The genocide war has turned much of the enclave of 2.3 million people into ruins, leaving most civilians homeless and at risk of famine.
