12 Jun 2024 - 11:13

Iran’s acting Foreign Minister has met his Saudi counter part on the sideline of the BRICS ministerial meeting held in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod.

Iranian official, Ali Bagheri Kani, in this meeting hailed the developing relations between Tehran and Riyadh under late President Raeisi stressing that the cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia is not only beneficial for both sides but also secures the stability and security in the entire region.

Ali Baqeri Kani, in another part of his remarks, condemned the intensification of Israeli atrocities against Palestinians, namely the recent harrowing crime in Rafah, and stressed necessity of coordinated measure approved by all Islamic countries against the regime.

He said,” Israeli regime must face a serious and effective response by the Islamic countries for every atrocity and crime it commits.”

Saudi Foreign Minister, Faisal Bin Farhan, for his part hailed the resumption of Tehran-Riyadh relations under late President Raeisi and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian and emphasized that efforts to bolster bilateral ties will secure regional security and stability.

The two diplomats met on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministerial meeting in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.

Bagheri Kani arrived in western Russia on Monday to attend the BRICS 2024 as an official member.

Saudi Arabia is one of the countries the BRICS group has invited for official membership.

BRICS consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The group accounts for 42 percent of the global population and about 27 percent of both the world's land area and the world’s economy. Iran joined the group as a full member in January 2024.
