9,300 Palestinian prisoners are currently held in Israeli prisons and detention centers, according to the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
It added that this number is inclusive of the prisoners detained from the Gaza Strip, estimated at thousands, noting that the Israeli occupation Prison Service had announced that 899 Palestinians from Gaza were held in Israeli custody as unlawful combatants.
As for administrative detainees, PPS said that over 3,400 Palestinians are currently placed under “administrative detention”, which allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
Among the 3,400 Palestinians placed under administrative detention are approximately 600 detainees who are either serving life sentences or the occupation authorities intend to issue sentences of life imprisonment against them.
