The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, has attended the first night of the mourning ceremony held in Imam Khomeini Husseiniya in Tehran.
Hundreds of people from all walks of life attended the ceremony that began with recitation of verses of holy Qur’an, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
Also Hujjat-ul-Islam Ali Alizadeh delivered speech and Saeed Haddadian performed eulogy on the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) in the Battle of Karbala.
Different mourning ceremonies are held across Iran that mark the martyrdom of the third Shia Imam and his 72 companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
The ceremonies culminate on ninth and tenth of Muharram called as Tasua and Ashura.
