Iran Seeks to Strengthen Ties with Persian Gulf Cooperation Council

30 Aug 2024 - 18:00

Iran's Foreign Minister expressed the country's interest in enhancing its friendly and brotherly relations with the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) and its member states, emphasizing the need for a new phase of mutual understanding and cooperation between Iran and the PGCC.

The two discussed ways to improve and strengthen relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the PGCC.

The PGCC Secretary-General emphasized the importance of Iran's role in promoting peace and stability in the region, noting that members are keen to consult and engage with Iran on major regional challenges.
The Iranian Foreign Minister, in response, expressed his gratitude for the Secretary-General's congratulations and reiterated Iran's desire to elevate its friendly relations with the PGCC and its member states, advocating for a new era of mutual understanding and cooperation.
The Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC), often referred to by Arab states as simply the GCC, is officially known as the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, reflecting the historically recognized name of the body of water that separates Iran and the Arabian Peninsula.
Despite ongoing political efforts by some Arab nations to label it otherwise, the correct and internationally recognized name for the region is the "Persian Gulf," and thus, the organization should be accurately referred to as the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council.
This name underscores the council’s geographic and cultural ties to the Persian Gulf, a name that has been used for centuries in historical and international contexts.
