A member of Iran’s Assembly of Experts has called a unified Islamic ummah (nation) as a key objective and a prelude to the other objectives.

Ayatollah Ahmad Moballeghi, speaking at the eighth webinars of the 38^th Islamic Unity Conference on "Islamic cooperation to achieve common values with an emphasis on the Palestinian issue", called solidarity of the Muslims as a basis for other objectives of the Islamic ummah, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
He said,” The first step towards materializing Islamic unity is to eliminate disunity or any grounds for that.”
 
According to the cleric a second step for establishment of a unified ummah is to underline the commonalities or the factors that could bring Muslims closer to each other.
 
Ayatollah Moballeghi also highlighted coexistence and Islamic fraternity as a key prerequisite for Islamic unity so that Muslims assist each other in face of challenges.
 
He said that an Islamic nation should be moderate and make a role model for other nations so that other nations follow its examples.
 
The senior cleric also referred to the issue of Palestine and condemned the Israeli regime for decades of occupation, massacre and destruction of the infrastructures in the occupied Palestinian lands.
 
Ayatollah Moballeghi made the remarks at the webinar of the 38^th Islamic Unity Conference entitled "Islamic cooperation to achieve common values with an emphasis on the Palestinian issue".
 
The 38^th Islamic Unity Conference is held in two sections: first the online webinars held on September 14-20 with more than 200 Shia and Sunni scholars and elites from across the globe exchanging their views on the developments across the world of Islam.
 
The second section of the meeting is held in the Iranian capital Tehran on September 19-21 with hundreds of religious leaders and officials in attendance.
