The Secretary General of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Hamid Shahriari, has called on religious scholars to put forward practical initiatives to bolster Islamic unity.
Shahriari has made the remarks at the meeting with Iranian scholars and elites held on the first day of the 38th International Islamic Unity Conference which kicked off In Tehran on Thursday.
He hailed Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian who appoints qualified Sunni politician in his administration.
The scholars participating in the international conference discussed the proposals on Islamic unity, he said.
It is expected that the practical plans will be presented in this regard, he pointed out.
The most important Sunni scholars are from Iran, he said, adding that training scholars on the proximity of the Islamic schools of thought must be perused.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he paid homage to the former president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, who was martyred in a chopper crash in the country’s East Azerbaijan province in May.
The new edition of the conference entitled “Islamic Cooperation to Achieve Common Values with an Emphasis on Palestine Issue” opened at the Islamic Conference Hall on Thursday September 19.
More than 150 elites, prayer leaders, intellectuals and activists from across the world attend the conference underway on September 19-21 with the main focus of the event on the issue of Palestine.
The major Islamic event is annually held by World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought in part of efforts for the Muslim intellectuals to convene and discuss the developments across the world of Islam.
