Iran, Saudi discuss Israel aggression on Palestine, Lebanon

4 Oct 2024 - 18:00

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian yesterday met with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan and discussed the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and Palestine, calling for unity among Islamic countries to confront Israeli crimes.

“We consider Islamic countries like the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as our brothers, and we emphasise increasing rapprochement and unity by putting differences of opinion aside,” he said.
Referring to Iran’s large-scale missile attack against Israel on Tuesday evening, Pezeshkian said the operation came in response to the continued Israeli crimes after false promises of a ceasefire in Gaza in exchange for Iran not striking back.
The Iranian president pointed out that Saudi Arabia could play an important role in stopping the Israeli attacks, adding that Israel dares to commit genocide in Gaza only because of the Islamic countries’ indifference.
“If we do not unite against this aggression, tomorrow after Gaza and Lebanon, the turn will come to other Islamic countries and cities,” he warned.
For his part, the Saudi foreign minister stressed the importance of developing relations between the two countries and among Islamic countries, adding that the kingdom intends “to turn the page on differences between the two countries, solve problems, and develop bilateral relations as two friendly and sisterly countries.”
Regarding the Israeli aggression on the region, Bin Farhan indicated that the Israeli authorities are trying to spread war throughout the region.
“We appreciate your wisdom and skill in controlling the situation, and at the same time, we have full faith that we will play a role in ensuring peace and calm in the region,” he added.
