A senior leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has slammed the international community’s silence and inaction as Israel continues to commit genocide against the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, saying this inaction makes it complicit in the genocide and war crimes.
Hamdan stressed that the credibility of the international community and its international institutions, especially the UN Security Council, the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice, is being tested by their own charters and values. “They have to shoulder their responsibility and stop the genocide against the Palestinian people,” he insisted.
The fact that Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories, has also mentioned the support given by the West to help Israel commit its crimes is significant, said Hamdan.
“We say clearly that the US administration, which gave the [Israeli] occupation regime a month to consider the mechanisms for taking in aid [to Gaza] instead of pressuring it to stop the crimes and aggression immediately, confirms that it is giving it time to commit its crime without consequences,” he added.
Hamdan said that the latest regional tour by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken aims to provide political cover for Israeli crimes, amid talks about “the day after the war”.
In this regard, he stressed that only the Palestinian people have the right to make such decisions with their own free and independent will. “They are the people who will decide the details and agendas of the day after the war, which will be purely Palestinian, and not according to Israeli standards and American desires.”
