Fatah member optimistic over talks with Hamas to form joint committee to run post-war Gaza

4 Nov 2024 - 18:30

A member of Palestinian group Fatah sounded optimism on Sunday over the ongoing talks with Hamas to form a joint committee to run the Gaza Strip following Israel’s brutal war on the enclave.

“The meeting seeks to unify visions on the reconstruction of Gaza and the situation in the enclave after the end of the Israeli aggression,” Taysir Nasrallah, a member of Fatah’s Revolutionary Council, told Anadolu.
He voiced hope that a “consensus formula” will be announced later Sunday following the talks.
“The general trend goes for reconstructing the enclave, providing aid and managing the territory in coordination between the two groups, under the auspices of the Palestinian Authority,” he said.
Despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire, Israel has continued a devastating offensive on Gaza since an attack last year by the Palestinian resistance group.
More than 43,300 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 102,100 others injured, according to local health authorities.
The Israeli onslaught has displaced almost the territory’s entire population amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.
Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
