Iranian activists urge expulsion of Israel from UN following Netanyahu ICC warrant

23 Nov 2024 - 9:33

Iranian demonstrators in the capital Tehran have gathered outside the UN office to denounce the war crimes by the Israeli regime after the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The ICC’s Pre-Trial Chamber I issued arrest warrants for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant "for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed from at least 8 October 2023 until at least 20 May 2024, the day the Prosecution filed the applications for warrants of arrest”, it confirmed in a statement Thursday.

It is the first instance in the court's 22-year history it has issued arrest warrants for Western-allied senior officials.

Hundreds of protesters on Friday called for the UN’s immediate and firm move to expel the Israeli regime from the world body and other international organizations.

They denounced the Tel Aviv regime’s genocidal and criminal acts against the people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip.

The protesters slammed international bodies, including the UN, over their failure to stop Israeli atrocities in Gaza and Lebanon.

Iranian demonstrators shouted slogans such as “The child-killing Zionist should be executed; The Zionist regime should be expelled” and "Down with Israel" as they waved Iranian flags.

The participants lashed out at the United States and its Western allies for supporting Israel, including vetoing a Gaza ceasefire resolution, saying the Security Council’s structure lacks the efficiency to stop the regime’s crimes.

The protesters called on UN top officials to exert pressure on Israel to end its crimes in Gaza and Lebanon.

The United States on Wednesday vetoed another draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council calling for an “immediate, unconditional and permanent” ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

It was the fourth time the administration of President Joe Biden has wielded its veto power to block a ceasefire in Gaza since the Israeli regime launched the genocidal war last October.

More than 44,000 Palestinians, mostly children and women, have been killed and over 104,000 people wounded in the war that Israel began on October 7, 2023 following a retaliatory operation by the Palestinian territory’s resistance movements.
