Iran Dismisses European Troika Accusations as Politically Motivated

3 Dec 2024 - 18:26

Following a joint letter from the Permanent Representatives of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom to the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations, in a letter to the Security Council and the UN secretary general, described the accusations as baseless and politically motivated.

Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, in a letter to the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General on Monday local time, slammed these accusations  as baseless and politically motivated. The Iranian senior diplomat emphasized that the actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran were taken within the framework of legitimate rights stipulated in Articles 26 and 36 of the JCPOA and in response to the unilateral and illegal withdrawal of the United States from the agreement.

Amir Saeid Irvani, pointing out that the letter states that the European Troika has violated its commitments to lift sanctions and has continued its hostile policies by imposing new sanctions, including against the Islamic Republic of Iran's shipping lines and aviation sector, added: "Referring to its transparent and constructive cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Islamic Republic of Iran has rejected the accusations made regarding non-compliance with safeguards obligations and has considered the recent actions of the Troika and the United States in passing a resolution against Iran at the recent meeting of the Board of Governors to be contrary to the facts."
Iravani said: "Tehran has described the claims made by the European Troika that Iran's letter to the International Atomic Energy Agency on October 22, 2024, indicates an intention to acquire nuclear weapons as completely baseless and misleading."
Stating that this letter was sent only to warn about the Israeli regime's threats against Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities, Iravani said: "Iran has emphasized that its nuclear programs are within the NPT framework and that nuclear weapons have no place in Iran's defense doctrine."
Iravani stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran has emphasized its adherence to its obligations under the NPT and repeatedly has affirmed its inalienable right to develop, research, produce, and use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in accordance with Articles 1 and 2 of the treaty.
Finally, Iran reiterated its commitment to diplomatic solutions and called on the European Troika to immediately end actions that violate the JCPOA and Resolution 2231 and to fulfill their obligations to respect international law.
