Iran's Foreign Minister Set to Visit New York

13 Jan 2025 - 19:31

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, in his weekly press conference on Monday, said that Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, will travel to New York to participate in a meeting on Palestine and Gaza.

He added: "Iran has been invited to participate. Several countries from the region will attend at the ministerial level. The focus of the meeting will be on the ongoing genocide and crimes of the Israeli regime, and Abbas Araghchi is also expected to attend this session."

We are not begging for negotiation
"Iran has always pursued the path of dialogue to dispel doubts which are unjustified about its nuclear program," Baghaei said.
"Negotiations are underway today and tomorrow, in Geneva on some issues between Iran and three European countries. We will make a decision on the US in due course, based on its actions and approaches, he added.
We don't beg for negotiation. It is a two-way street that is achievable by emphasizing and recognizing mutual interests and mutual respect.
He emphasized: "The issue of lifting sanctions has always been a priority for us. The first goal is to lift the sanctions that have been illegally and cruelly imposed on the Iranian nation for years."
According to Baghaei, in these talks, a series of regional and international issues, the nuclear issue, and discussions with the three countries and the European Union will be discussed."
Iran's President's upcoming trip to Russia
Regarding the significance of Iran's President's trip to Russia, Esmaeil Baghaei stated: "Iran and Russia have been negotiating the strategic partnership treaty between the two sides over the past three to four years, with various drafts exchanged. It was finalized this summer and is set to be signed during this trip. This treaty covers a wide range of topics in the fields of economy, transportation, energy, health, agriculture, cooperation in addressing common challenges, reducing the impacts of natural disasters, combating terrorism and organized crime, renewable energy, discussions related to transportation and logistics, road, rail, air, and maritime transport, as well as the transfer of experience and technical knowledge in various areas."
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted: "This treaty is an updated text of the agreement we had concluded with Russia since the late 1990s. The agreement forms the basis of mutual relations and principles of cooperation between Iran and Russia, which has been in effect since 2002 and is currently operational. Efforts were made to draft the new treaty with more detail and specificity, considering the developments and expansion of relations between the two countries in various fields.
France's unconstructive actions towards Iran
Referring to France's recent anti-Iranian actions, including President Emmanuel Macron's statements, the summoning of the Iranian ambassador to Paris, and more,  Baghaei commented: "We hope that France can free itself from this confusion and disorientation and adopt an independent and constructive approach towards the region and regional developments."
Emphasizing that the claims made regarding Iran's nuclear program are baseless, he stated: "We have responded appropriately to the positions taken in recent days, and these accusations have been raised for 20 years without any legal foundation. A significant portion of these statements is projection."
Gaza developments
Pointing to the continuation of genocide in Gaza, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: "It is shameful that the world and organizations that are supposed to represent peace, security, and international justice have failed to fulfill their duties."
He said: "The main reason for this situation is the support of countries that have effectively taken the Security Council hostage, preventing any action by this council to confront the genocide, and also by providing military and financial aid to the occupying regime, they are contributing to the continuation of the genocide. For this reason, various reporters from the Human Rights Council have repeatedly stated that the countries assisting are complicit in these crimes and bear international responsibility for those who support these atrocities."
He continued: "The decisions of the International Court of Justice remain stagnant and unimplemented, and the International Criminal Court is under pressure not to pursue the prosecution of Israeli criminals."
