A Hezbollah delegation met in Moscow Wednesday with Russian lawmakers on the party’s first official visit to the country.
Hezbollah’s Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc leader,MP Mohammad Raad, told reporters at the airport upon arrival that the visit reflected the party’s will to promote cooperation with Russia on issues of mutual concern.
Raad said the visit followed an invitation by the Russian parliamentary committee for relations with Middle Eastern parliaments.
Hezbollah’s delegation held talks with Russian deputy speaker Vladimir Zhirinovsky over the latest developments in the Middle East and particularly U.S. attempts to interfere in the region, a statement released by Hezbollah said.
The delegation also discussed the regional situation with the chairman of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee, Constantine Kosachev, who stressed his support for Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty.
The three-man delegation, headed by Hezbollah MP Mohammad Raad, is scheduled to meet Russian officials for talks on developments in Lebanon and the region.
Raad is being accompanied by Hezbollah MPs Hassan Fadlallah and Nawwar Sahli. Hezbollah will also raise the issue of ongoing pressure by Western countries, which it says are targeting the resistance.
