Russia president signs decree on UN Iran resolution fulfillment

 
According to the decree issued on Friday, Moscow is obligated to comply with Resolution 2231, which was passed in July 2015.

On January 16, Iran and the P5+1 group of countries -- the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China plus Germany -- started to implement a nuclear agreement, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

After the JCPOA went into effect, all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran by the European Union, the Security Council and the US were lifted. Iran, in return, has put some limitations on its nuclear activities.

The nuclear agreement was signed between Iran and the six global powers on July 14, 2015 following two and a half years of intensive talks.

On 20 July 2015, the Security Council unanimously adopted resolution 2231 (2015) endorsing the JCPOA. The Security Council affirmed that full implementation of the JCPOA would contribute to building confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program and emphasized that the JCPOA is conducive to promoting and facilitating the development of normal economic and trade contacts and cooperation with Iran.
