Senior cleric: workers enjoy high status in Islam
“The position of the workers is very important in Islam," Ayatollah Hasan Mamdouhi, a member of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom stressed, Taqrib News Agency (TNA) quoted Rasa as saying.

The teacher in the Islamic Seminary of Qom added that the wages for all acts of labour should be given according to its result and in terms of the importance of various tasks and in general, the result must always be the result of work and action.

Ayatollah Mamdouhi said that no one can achieve anything without work and added that Iran needs work in order to progress and added, “As long as the actions are not taken, the destiny of mankind won’t be achieved and we must not assume that someone who is unemployed can achieve anything.”

He added, "in narrations, it says that God isn’t satisfied with an unemployed youth and in other narrations, the importance of working is stressed upon."

“If someone has land and water, but is idle, God distances Himself from that person,” he said.

The Iranian cleric stated that workers should be supported and added, “The wages of workers should be given in full and it is stated in a narration that ‘before the sweat of worker dries, his wages should be paid.’ The commands of Islam towards workers should be respected and the dignity of workers must be preserved.”

Ayatollah Mamdouhi emphasized the importance of respecting and protecting the dignity of workers noting, “When a worker seeks his rights and wages but is treated with disrespect, it is not befitting of the Islamic system of government. The status of workers in Iran is relatively good compared to elsewhere but we should provide them with more support and give them their full salaries and assist them.”

Every year on May 1st, people across the globe take to the streets to commemorate International Workers’ Day or May Day, which is a celebration of labourers and the working classes.
