Hundreds of Muslims hold first prayer in Times Square
Hundreds of Muslims have attended the first communal prayer, Iftar meal in Times Square, New York.

Organizers of the communal prayer in Times Square said the move meant to introduce Islam to those unfamiliar with the holy religion, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
More than 1000 Muslims held their first Iftar meal together in the busy streets at Time Square on Saturday.
Nearly 1'500 meals have been prepared for the Muslims arriving from Montreal to attend the communal prayer held in Times Square for the first time.
Verses from the holy Qur'an were recited to the participants and the lecturers detailed the different aspects of the fasting month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar. Muslims worldwide mark the time with fasting as they abstain from eating and drinking. Qur'an recitation, doing charity work are highly recommended during the month.
