Baghdad International Islamic unity conference kicks off

The second Islamic unity conference in Baghdad has officially opened with several Shia and Sunni scholars from across the world of Islam in attendance.

The event, organized by al-Rebat al-Mohammadi Scholars’ Council, is entitled “Al-Aqsa Flood, Issues and Identity”, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
Headed by Dr Hamid Shahriari, the Secretary General of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Iranian delegation of 25 Shia and Sunni elites are also attending the event held in the Iraqi capital.
 
Also among the participants to the major Islamic convention are Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, the leader of Nigeria Islamic Movement, Sheikh Badr al-Din Hassoun, prominent Syrian cleric, Sheikh Musa Aydin, renowned Muslim Turkish scholar and also prominent Afghan scholar, Maulawi Habibullah Hussam.
 
The second international Islamic unity conference in Baghdad has convened a number of Shia and Sunni scholars from Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Kuwait, Iran and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
 
The participants will discuss their views on the issue of Palestine and Israel’s genocidal war against the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip hitting the world headlines for the past seven months.
 
The Iraqi capital also hosted the first Islamic unity conference in March 2023 as dozens of Muslim scholars and elites discussed the issue of Takfir (excommunication), bids for normalization with Israeli regime and the role of media in boosting Islamic unity among other topics.
