Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Sadruddin al-Qubanchi praised the liberation of several areas in Mosul and the surrounding Nineveh Governorate by the Iraqi forces.

The Iraqi scholar said, “The courage of the warriors in the operation to liberate the western part of Mosul has led to the admiration of the world in such a way that some newspapers, including the Washington Times, has expressed surprise at the rapid advances of the warriors.”

He appreciated the Iraqi parliament for passing a law granting the same rights to members of the Popular Mobilization Forces that members of the country’s Armed Forces enjoy.

Hujjat al-Islam al-Qubanchi reacted to conference held by a group of Iraqi Sunni leaders in the Swiss city of Geneva who call themselves “The Iraqi National Coalition,” and said, “The sense of the destruction of Daesh, the strength of the political process in Iraq and an understanding of the power of the Shi’ahs of Iraq are among the factors for this meeting in Geneva.”

He invited those participating in this conference to respect Iraq’s constitution and to engage in the country’s political process and added, “The participants of this conference must avoid engaging in acts of terrorism, sectarianism and insulting the Popular Mobilization Forces.”

According to Rasa News, Hujjat al-Islam al-Qubanchi referred to the decision made by the new American President, Donald Trump to exclude Iraq from the list of countries whose citizens are banned from entering the United States and said, “Trump’s measure to ban citizens of certain countries from entering the US is foolish, crazy and against the mores of global diplomacy.”

On Monday, Trump signed the order placing a 90-day ban on people from six mainly Muslim countries.

The new order maintains a 90-day ban on travel to the US by citizens of Iran, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Sudan, but excludes Iraq and applies the restriction only to new visa applicants. It also removed an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees.
