Top cleric holds UK Prime Minister’s accusations groundless
Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani dismissed the remarks made by UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, that Iran is creating tensions and insecurity in the Middle East through its interference in the affairs of other Arab nations.

Addressing members of the Basij and cultural activists from Qom and Alborz provinces, Grand Ayatollah Hoseyn Nouri-Hamadani stated, "jihad is a very important issue in Islam because from the beginning of time of the establishment of Islam, jihad was enjoined by the Prophet Muhammad," Taqrib News Agency (TNA) quoted Rasa as saying.
The revered source of emulation referring to the types of jihad stressed, “Making use of war technology is one of the forms of jihad through which Islam progressed, developed and had a great impact.”
He said, “The Quran has said that Islam should be in a position in which the enemies fear it and we mustn’t advance our actions through lenience and moderation.”
Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani referred to the eight-year-long Iran-Iraq War adding, “The Sacred Defense was a ‘hard war’ and sometimes the enemy didn’t come to the battlefield with guns but rather they entered the battlefield the means of a ‘soft war’ and today, they have come to the battlefield with this same model.”
His Eminence underlined, “Today, ‘hard wars’ are being fought against Iraq, Syria, Yemen and other regional countries but the enemies have come to understand that a ‘hard war’ doesn’t work in Iran and thus, have applied a ‘soft war’ against our country.”
“Every day the enemies create new plots against Islam and Muslims and with these same excuses, they seek to launch a war to undermine Islam," the Iranian cleric said.
Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani beckoned to British Prime Minister Theresa May’s remarks made during a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit in December 2016 in Bahrain in which she suggested that Iran’s support of terrorism in the region is the reason that it sells arms sales to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and other regional countries and criticized Iranian officials’ lack of an appropriate position in the wake of May’s remarks.
He stated, “[May] has been in Saudi Arabia for the past several days where she made these same type of remarks against and if our officials had offered a decisive and unanswerable reply in the first place, she wouldn’t have dared to make such remarks a second time.”
Speaking in Riyadh on Thursday, May accused Tehran of creating tensions and insecurity in the Middle East through its interference in the affairs of other Arab nations.
Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani concluded, "Iranian officials must be equipped with consciousness, thought, and insight in order to react and respond in an appropriate manner so that our enemies don’t dare to make such nonsensical remarks. "
