Cleric highlights importance of Eid al-Qadir among Islamic denominations
A senior Iranian cleric has emphasized importance of Eid al-Qadir as an Islamic occasion respected and celebrated by both Shia and Sunni communities.

Ayatollah Mirza Mohammad Hussein Ahmadi Faqih Yazdi, professor at Qom Seminary, in an interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA) hailed Eid al-Qadir as a special celebration that boosts solidarity between the Shia and Sunni Muslims.
The occasion marks the anniversary of Qadir Khumm event which introduces Imam Ali (AS) as the first Shia Imam and successor of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
According to the professor of Qom Seminary the congregational prayer on Eid al-Qadir, like other Eid prayers in Islam, is based on unity saying,” This congregation for prayer can also contribute to solidarity of the Islamic nation, particularly when the entire world is in an opposite position to Islam and enemies are in ambush to inflict a blow by any possible means.”
Ayatollah Mirza Mohammad Hussein Ahmadi Faqih Yazdi emphasized importance of proximity among Muslims and expressed hope that loyalty to Imam Ali (AS) can strengthen unity among Muslims.
The Shia scholar made the remarks on the eve of Eid al-Qadir that celebrates the event of Qadir Khum in 632 CE when Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) introduced Imam Ali (AS) as his successor and the first imam (leader) for Muslims.
