Hussein (AS) Day marked in NY
Thousands of Muslims from different nationalities marked the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) in New York.

Martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was marked in New York on Sunday November 18th, the nearest Sunday to Ashura, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

The event was shared with the non-Muslims by brochures and handouts explaining Ashura and the Battle of Karbala back in 680 when Imam Hussein (AS) and 72 of his companions were killed in cold blood.

Black-clad mourners from different nationalities drew the attention of the passers-by in Manhattan.

Shia Muslims in New York name the nearest Sunday to Shura, 10th of Muharram, as Hussein (AS) day to mark the tragic martyrdom of their Imam.

Muslims in the Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC) have started the mourning days of Muharram on Thursday on November 15th.

The ceremony starts following sunset and Maghrib Prayer and the sermons in Persian and English languages./ HK
