Top cleric calls for stronger ties between Iranian Azerbaijani scholars
A senior Iranian cleric praised the bilateral ties between Iran, Azerbaijan and called for stronger relations between scholars and scientists from both countries.

Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, a senior deputy of the Supreme Leader in Muslim world Affairs met with Elshad Iskandarov, Chairman of State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations of Azerbaijan Republic to laud the various grounds of cooperation between the two countries and praised the cultural potentialities of Baku and Tehran, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He referred to the remarks of Azeri official on the important role of proximity for the world of Islam and noted that the proximity activities in Azerbaijan and experiences of the Islamic Republic of Iran can set a good example for cooperation among all Muslim communities.
President of the Supreme Council at the world Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought stated that,” Today we are witness that countries which are claimants of counter terrorism activities are note only cooperating with and arming Takfiri (excommunicating) Salafis but also provoke the scholars to issue fatwas for excommunication of Shia.”
Ayatollah Taskhiri referred the invitation for Wahhabi scholars to discuss the reason behind their fatwas excommunicating Shia in his recent visit to Malaysia and said the invitation was turned down because of lack of logics and political nature of the move by Wahhabi scholars.
“We, in the Islamic Republic of Iran, are claimants of unity in the world of Islam.” said Ayatollah Taskhiri and added,” Here we announce our preparation for cooperation with all Muslim countries to realize Islamic proximity.”
Iranian cleric also touched upon the stress by the late founder of Islamic Revolution and the Supreme Leader to maintain unity and respecting Sunni sanctities and said, “Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution have stressed that he who desecrates the sanctities of other denominations is a puppet of the arrogant powers and is away from the features for a true Muslim.”
He concluded with hopes that scholars from both countries can cooperate to stand against Takfiri movements.
Elshad Iskandarov, in this meeting, lauded the religious activities of Islamic Republic in Azerbaijan and expressed hope that his country will benefit the experiences of Iran in the field of publishing religious books.
Iskandarov hailed the full existence between Shia and Sunni Muslims in Azerbaijan and stated that Baku-Tehran cooperation can have true effects on solving the issues of Muslim world.
He said Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and his household belong to all Muslims calling Takfiri groups as the plague for the world of Islam.
