“The apprehension of Mossad agents and the perpetrators behind the assassination of one of the country's prominent [scholars]… is a turning point in the scientific developments in the country,” IRNA quoted Ayatollah Kazem Seddiqi as saying on Friday.

“God did not want these prominent [scholars] to remain obscure, so he extricated them from their cages through the most evil of regimes and their inner light exploded and with their blood they blessed [the country's] scientific bases and they encouraged their companions in the nuclear cause to carry on,” Tehran's interim Friday Prayer leader told worshippers.

Ayatollah Seddiqi hailed the arrest of elements hired by Israel's spy agency to target Iranian nuclear scientists, and called it a great victory for the Islamic Republic and its supporters.

The senior cleric also lashed out at the international human rights organization for turning a blind eye to the terrorist operations masterminded by foreign regimes against the Islamic Republic.

“It is a disgrace for humanity that …the United Nations and the Security Council which claim to be rights advocates to give their backing to a regime which they obviously see is illegitimate in its very existence,” he said.

On November 29, Dr. Majid Shahriari was assassinated in the early hours of the morning when his car came under a bomb attack by terrorists in the capital, Tehran.

Another university professor, Dr. Fereydoun Abbasi, and his wife survived a similar attack on the same day.

In January 2010, Professor Massoud Ali-Mohammadi, a lecturer at Tehran University, was killed in Tehran when a bomb exploded and ripped through his car.

In a Monday statement, Iran's Intelligence Ministry announced that after extensive security operations the main perpetrators in Dr. Ali-Mohammadi's assassination had been arrested and a terror cell comprising of Israeli-trained spies and terrorists was dismantled.

It said that Israeli intelligence service Mossad has used bases in certain European and non-European countries as well as some of Iran's neighboring states in an attempt to achieve its anti-Iranian objectives, including the assassination of Dr. Ali-Mohammadi.
