Ayatollah Khamenei praised the exquisite handicraft during the Monday ceremony, describing it a great honor for the Islamic Republic.
“This carpet is an eternal honor and a great reminder of the Islamic Republic, which has been inspired by the Iranian artists' love [for the holy Qur'an], and will keep the memory of its creators alive for centuries,” the Leader said during the meeting with the artisans.
Craftsmen from the Iranian city of Tabriz worked six years to weave the whole Qur'an in the form of a book with 152 pages, in 62 million knots.
“The carpet will be donated to the Astan-e Qods Razavi Museum [in the holy city of Mashhad] so that the public can see it,” the Leader said.
Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to Islamic art as a matter of great significance, noting that it is the result of the artist's spiritual inspiration.
The Leader also urged officials to encourage artists and craftsmen in the country to promote traditional Iranian handicrafts.
