Iran, Venezuela discuss closer ties

Iran and Venezuela have emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral ties to further advance common goals and forge closer cooperation on the international arena.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Behrouz Kamalvandi, in a meeting with Venezuela's Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro, underlined that the two countries are keen to further promote cooperation on regional and international issues, saying Tehran and Caracas need to work together closely on all fronts, Mehr News Agency reported.

Kamalvandi is currently in Venezuela as part of his Latin American tour.

In the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral issues as well as the latest regional and international developments.

The top Iranian diplomat said hegemonic powers are trying to use issues such as human rights and terrorism as a pretext to pressure independent countries in a bid to cover up their own poor performance at local and international levels.

The visiting Iranian official emphasized on key role of independent countries such as Iran and Venezuela in opposing global hegemony.

Maduro, in turn, described Tehran-Caracas relations as positive, saying his country is ready to foster cooperation with Iran.
