Muqtada Sadr issues permission for communal prayer
Top Iraqi cleric has issued a fatwa (religious statement) to permit communal prayers in mosques maintaining health protocols against COVID-19.

Prominent Iraqi Shia cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr has issued a statement permitting the mosques to be reopened for communal prayers stressing that the health protocols should be maintained by worshippers, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
Muqtada al-Sadr has stated that the communal prayers can be resumed conditioned that the social distancing and health protocols against COVID-19 are observed by all particiapants.
Iraqi officials had cancelled Friday prayers and public gatherings across the country since March 2020.
A popular destination for the Shia Muslims, Iraq had also restricted pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (AS).
The country has just eased the restrictions for vaccinated pilgrims from across the globe.
