In an interview with Iran Press, Momeni noted that dismantling the financial resources of traffickers was a demand of Iran that was raised at the Vienna meeting, which proposed the use of the existing capacities to track the financial sources of drug traffickers.
The top official has highlighted that the sanctions imposed on Iran were the main obstacles in the global fight against drugs to protect the West's people from addiction.
Iran's Momeni told IP that Iran called for help to the source country where opium is produced, Afghanistan, and substitute the cultivation of opium with other plants.
He pointed to precursors as another issue mentioned by Iran in the annual meeting of UNODC, saying the flow of precursors from Europe to Afghanistan has increased in recent years.
According to the UN Office, the Islamic Republic's continuous efforts to combat narcotics trafficking came up with the seizure of more than 90 percent of opium, 70 percent of morphine, and 20 percent of world heroin.
