Iraqi Sunni scholar hails Shia jurist over counter-terrorism fatwa
Top Iraqi Sunni cleric has issued a message on his Twitter account to hail the historical fatwa (religious statement) by Shia jurist Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani stressing mobilization to fight against terrorist groups in the country.

Sheikh Khalid al Mala'a, head of the Society of Sunni Scholars in Iraq has issued a message to mark the eighth anniversary of the historical fatwa by Ayatollah Sistani regarding formation of Popular Mobilization Unit (PMU) to fight against Daesh terrorist group, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
Top Sunni scholar in his message noted," The fatwa by Ayatollah Sistani, warmly welcomed by the Iraqi nation, saved Iraqi government from topple and return of the dictatorship."
He stressed," Iraqi people owe much to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani and the bloods shed for the love of country, religion, reputation and sanctities."
Back in June 2014 and amid intensifying war in Iraq, Senior Shia jurist Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani issued a fatwa calling on the people to join hands and fight terrorists in the country.
Thousands of Iraqi civilians joined each other to establish Popular Mobilization Unit also known as Hashd al Shaabi.
The historical fatwa was widely welcomed since it legalized formation of Hashd al Sha'abi.
