Israeli forces detain 18 Palestinians in West Bank raids

The soldiers detained three young men from a vehicle in Yabad town, southwest of the northern West Bank city of Jenin.
Elsewhere in the northern West Bank, a convoy of army vehicles stormed Nablus city, where the soldiers detained three others, including a former prisoner.
One of the detainees was identified as a university lecturer at An-Najah National University. The other two were identified as a formerly-detained member of Nablus Municipality and a pharmacist.
In Tubas district, the sources confirmed a raid in al-Fari'ah refugee camp, south of the city, resulting in the detention of two others.
During ensuing confrontations, the heavily-armed soldiers opened gunfire towards young men attempting to block their passage, injuring four.
One of the casualties, according to Palestinian Red Crescent (PRC) medics, sustained live gunshot injury in the head and was subsequently rushed to Ibn Sina Hospital for urgent treatment.
PRC medics added that the three other casualties sustained live ammunition injuries in their lower extremities and were subsequently rushed to Tubas Government Hospital for treatment. They came under Israeli military gunfire at they were driving their car near the camp entrance.
In Ramallah district, the soldiers showed up at a house in al-Am'ari refugee camp, south of al-Bireh city, muscled inside, conducted a thorough search and eventually detained another.
They also rounded up two others close to the notorious detention facility of Ofer, west of Ramallah.
In the southern West Bank, the gun-toting soldiers barged their way into Jannatah town, south of Bethlehem, forcibly entered several houses and detained five others, including a former prisoner.
On Monday evening, an army force stormed Kisan village, east of Bethlehem, entered several houses, held the inhabitants inside for several hours and searched the houses, turning them topsy-turvy.
Also on Monday evening, the sources said that two brothers were detained from al-Azzeh refugee camp, north of the city.
Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for "wanted" Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
According to the latest figures from Addameer, the Palestinian Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, there are currently 4,650 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons and detention centers, including 180 children and 30 female prisoners.
This number includes approximately 650 Palestinians placed under “administrative detention”, that allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
Mass arrest of Palestinians is nothing new. According to a 2017 report by Addameer, over the past 50 years, more than 800,000 Palestinians have been imprisoned or detained by Israel, this figure is now believed to be closer to 1 million. This means that about 40% of Palestinian men and boys living under military occupation have been deprived of their freedom. Almost every Palestinian family has suffered the imprisonment of a loved one.
