Major General Hossein Salami made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Syrian Defense Minister Ali Mahmoud Abbas in Tehran on Tuesday as the two discussed closer military and defense cooperation between Iran and Syria.

He underscored the importance of the exchange of experiences in various fields, especially in the fields of cyber, intelligence and electronic warfare.

“The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps is ready for training cooperation with the Syrian armed Forces, including in the courses of Command and Staff, advanced courses of war strategies and military branches as well as to promote other specialized departments while adhering to the previous agreements,” Salami said.

The IRGC chief also stressed the importance of developing defense and military cooperation between Syria and Iran, noting, “We are ready to help the Syrian armed forces in the required dimensions and fields.”

Salami also said the recent developments in the Israeli occupied territories and Gaza were a “sign of the Zionist regime’s decline,” adding, “Those who one day were after the destruction of Syria with a global attack, today are on the path of decline and destruction.”

Abbas, for his part, appreciated the Islamic Republic for supporting Syria in the fight against terrorism, specifically the Daesh terrorist group.

The Syrian armed forces, with the resistance of the Syrian people and the unwavering support of Iran and Hezbollah “will teach the enemy a lesson,” Abbas said. “We will achieve a great victory, which is the cleansing of the Syrian soil from the invaders with God's assistance and by inflicting deadly blows on the enemy.”

“Thanks to the resistance, the enemy is retreating on a daily basis, and we emphasize that the US policies in the region are deteriorating and have caused them to suffer other failures in other regions,” he added.

The Syrian defense minister also highlighted the necessity of promoting cooperation between Syria and Iran in various military and training sectors in order to stand against and defeat the enemies.

In a meeting with Abbas a day earlier, Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri praised Syria for standing at the forefront of support for Palestine against the Israeli regime, calling for stronger defense ties and plans to hold a joint war game with the country.

Iran maintains an advisory mission in Syria at the request of Damascus with the aim of helping the war-torn Arab country get rid of the foreign-backed militants, who have been fighting against the democratically-elected Syrian government since 2011.

Israel has been a key supporter of the terrorist groups operating on the soil of Syria and has targeted the positions of Iran’s military advisors as well as those of the Syrian army and resistance groups that have been fighting the terrorists.

In 2017, Iran’s advisory assistance helped Syria defeat the Daesh terrorist group, with late anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani playing a key role in the disgraceful defeat of the Takfiri outfit.
