A prominent Iraqi cleric called on the eastern countries to relay on their spiritual belongings and religion rather than on western countries.

Sheikh Javad Khalesi, top cleric from Iraq in his speech at the International Islamic Unity Conference held in Baghdad, hailed the resistance of people in Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Iran and other Islamic countries for standing against American and Israeli occupation, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
He called on the Muslim countries in the east to depend upon their religion, beliefs and spiritual capabilities.
 
The cleric expressed hope that Baghdad meeting will address new issues in the world of Islam and that it acts beyond mere words.
 
He also noted that the International Islamic Unity Conference will take practical steps in the line with boosting solidarity of Muslims so that no one is concerned over his ethnical or religious beliefs.
 
Sheikh Javad Khalesi also expressed hope that the meeting would lead to a dialogue of civilizations.
 
He highlighted the resistance of Islamic countries and said the sacrifices made by members of the resistance front should not be underestimated.
 
Attended by hundreds of prominent Shia and Sunni clerics, the International Islamic Unity Conference in Baghdad was held on Saturday.
