Representative of the Jewish community in Iran warned of the repercussions of disrespecting Islamic sanctities by some European countries, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

Homayoun Sameyeh stressed desecration of religious sanctities is rejected in all faiths and called the recent Qur’an burning in Sweden as heinous and unacceptable.

He said,” The so-called human rights are nothing but mere claims in these countries” and added, “Even if Europeans do not believe in any religion, they should respect religious sanctities in order to maintain relations with other countries” he noted.

Representative of the Assyrians in Iran’s Parliament, Shaarli Anouyeh Tekyeh, in a message expressed regret that such disrespects will fuel discord and promote extremism.

He called the heinous move to burn Qur’an against the international laws and a threat to security, freedom and rights of all people especially Muslims.

Iranian MP vowed that such provocative moves will lead to stronger friendships among the believers.

Shaarli Anouyeh Tekyeh reiterated necessity of respecting religious symbols and efforts to promote the culture of peace, tolerance and shared values.

Ara Shaverdian, representative of Armenians in Tehran and northern Iran also posted on his Twitter account to slam the Qur’an desecration and said,” Certainly disrespecting other religions in front of a mosque and concurrent with a major Islamic occasion, cannot be based on freedom of expression.”

The reactions pour after an Iraqi-descent young man tore pages of the holy book of Islam and set it on fire in a provocative move in front of a major mosque in the capital Stockholm.

The sacrilege has sparked anger protests across the globe as Muslim people demand their governments to sever relations with Stockholm.
