Iran, Pakistan eyeing on expanding military ties

General Asim Munir, the COAS, arrived in Iran on Friday for a two-day visit, marking his first visit to the country.

On Saturday, General Munir led a delegation of high-ranking military officials and held discussions with Major General Mohammad Bagheri in Tehran.
The meeting was held to boost military, training, defense, and security ties.
Major General Bagheri, in the meeting, cited the historical relationship between two neighboring countries as the foundation for enhancing bilateral ties and cooperation.
He stressed the importance of developing military ties between Tehran and Islamabad and increasing training, joint defense, and security ties between the two countries.
This is Gen Munir's fifth overseas trip ever since he took command of the Pakistan Army. In April, he paid an official visit to China to "enhance bilateral military relations."
Earlier, the COAS also visited Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the United Kingdom.
Earlier this year, in February, General Munir visited the UK at the invitation of Britain's Ministry of Defense to discuss strategic security issues.
Iran-Pakistan relations have been growing in various sectors recently.
Pakistan has the longest joint border with Iran after Iraq, with more than 900 kilometers of land border.
