Resistance, martyrdom foiled anti-Iran wars
The Leader made the remarks in a meeting with members of the Secretariat of National Congress for Commemoration of 3400 Martyrs of Ardabil in Imam Khomeini Husseiniya in the capital Tehran on Sunday August 13, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

The Leader said,” We saw how the active and advanced military forces in the world conspired
to eliminate a nation which was challenged by predicaments having just finished with a revolution. Martyrs rose to stand against the all-out war and foiled the attacks. And that is very important.”

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed struggle, resistance and perseverance as the clear paths ahead of every Iranian individual, a path that the scholars, elites, academics and statesmen should pave in their own way.

Ayatollah Khamenei praised Ardabil as one of the landmarks in Iran’s history due to the national and religious
effort made by the people in the Iranian city of Ardabil.

The Leader said the national effort made by the people in Ardabil was for unity in the country and the present solidarity in Iran is owed to Safavid era Ardabil before which the people were in numerous scattered tribes; therefore, the Iranian nation owes the current solidarity in the country to the people in Ardabil for the national and historical effort they did.

Ayatollah Khamenei said,” The religious effort was to promote Ahlul Bayt (AS) lifestyle as
it was also expanded across the country during Safavid era.”

The Leader lauded the people in Ardabil as pioneers of jihad (struggle) and deploying nearly 35,000 troops to the front (during Iraq war) saying,” Ardabil province has 3,400 martyrs and thousands of war veterans who should be protected as its identity.”

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the necessary measures to be taken to commemorate the martyrs naming to follow their path and also learn and practice the lessons they taught.

The Leader quoted verses from the holy Qur’an hailing the sacrifice made by martyrs as a common teaching of all religions (and not merely Islam).

Ayatollah
Khamenei said the sacrifices witnessed by the contemporary generation, might not be fully understood by the next generation and the fact must be considered.

The Leader referred to Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani whose martyrdom moved a nation and since the blood of martyrs is blessed by the Almighty God, the most outstanding of them being Imam Hussein (AS)

The Leader said,” The Battle of Karbala happened in nearly half a day, though the love for Imam Hussein (AS) resonates in history among both Muslims and non-Muslims. As
you see all Islamic denominations and non-Muslims: Christians, Zoroastrians and Hindus express their love for Imam Hussein (AS). And that should be safeguarded.”

Ayatollah Khamenei called on the visiting members of the Secretariat of National Congress for Commemoration of 3400 Martyrs of Ardabil to follow all necessary methods especially arts to protect the names, sacrifices, martyrdom stories and memories of martyrs.
