Iran: PGCC’s statement on three islands lacks political, legal value

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nasser Kanaani on Friday stated: The three islands are an integral and eternal part of the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and mentioning them in the recent statement of the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council lacks any political and legal value.

 The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added about the exploitation of joint resources in the Persian Gulf: The Islamic Republic of Iran, based on its bilateral negotiations with the Kuwaiti government and negotiation records, has always emphasized friendly and constructive cooperation in the field of energy, including in the Arash zone; Undoubtedly, behaviors based on attention to common interests can provide suitable grounds for regional cooperation.
 
Kanaani noted: The countries of the Persian Gulf should use the resources of the bed and sub-bed of the Persian Gulf based on goodwill and historical rights in line with the common interests of the nations.
 
Regarding the claims related to the peaceful Iran nuclear program the diplomat stated: The Islamic Republic of Iran has continued to advance its peaceful nuclear program and cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency in accordance with the rights and obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and it is not affected by political and interventions and pressures.
