Iranian thinker Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi says relying on genuine injunctions of Islam, which were set forth by the great Prophet (PBUH), and by great Quran, we can extract what we need for our guidance and life.

Praise be to God and salutations to the last Prophet, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and his Ahl-ul-Bait, who guide the mankind.
The reality is that we live in a society that is gaining more progress in technology day by day but gets poorer in ethics and spirituality. Such a society swiftly moves in terms of social technological developments. It moves in direction with the values dominating the society. In the system of idols, such values are physical, and worldly, coupled with moral degradation. This was to the extent that body of an airplane, flying a European team to the world football cup those times, showed symbol of homosexuality those times. The plane planned to land at a region in an Islamic country. It faced opposition, which followed by hue and cry. The reality is that the more man gains progress in science and technology, the more the dominating system becomes devoid of spirituality, as is the case in the West. Lack of spirituality strongly affects scientific policies, technological policies and the policy of using the world and its achievements. We at Islamic system and within framework of Islamic injunctions do know that prophets are sent with the fact to teach scripture and wisdom. Quran says, “...and teaching them the Book and wisdom.” Wisdom determines destiny of man’s movement. On the other hand, it is the values that are eventually endorsed by God. Any failure to appreciate the values will mark a wickedness, which is hated by God as Holy Quran’s Surah Asra reads, “The wickedness of each of that is hateful to your Lord.” We are in need of ruling based on wisdom and science. Prophets have thought the values to mankind and science cannot guide man to prosperity alone. Wisdom should couple with it and Prophet (PBUH) used to teach wisdom along with the book to mankind. The school is a salvation school and today, we me be more than ever in need of the wisdom thought by the Prophet (PBUH).
This should not only be taken into consideration at seminaries but in universities because as you know scientists are not the ones to set policies. Scientists are responsible for science and those are policy makes who set the direction for science. In the west, the values’ meaning is highly relative, every changing and challenging. Relying on genuine injunctions of Islam, which were set forth by the great Prophet (PBUH), and by great Quran, we can extract what we need for our guidance and life. God willing, this conference will succeed in this domain and we will be able to address the need of human society, that is pioneering in both science and technology and ethics and spirituality. Hope that the goal will be met.
