Israeli concerns of all-out war

TNA - Beirut
Israeli concerns of all-out war
The estimates of the Israeli home front commander, General Eyal Eisenberg on the rising prospects of overall war in the region, raised the concerns in Israel, which the political leadership tried to dispel it.

The Minister of Defense Ehud Barak, who toured the sites of Israeli military in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, announced that there is no fear of a war in the region, while other Israeli officials believe that the regional situation is improving.

Eisenberg presented a bleak vision  in a seminar held by the Centre for National Security Studies at the University of Tel Aviv. He warned that the ongoing revolutions in the Arab region, and the deterioration of relations with Turkey, could lead to all-out war in the Middle East.

"What is going on, leads to the conclusion that in the context of long-term, the prospects of war have increased overall. This is called the spring of the Arab people, but this could be an Islamic radical winter, and this increases the risk of global war, in which weapons of mass destruction can be used",said Eisenberg.

Adding that "Iran has not neglected its nuclear program. Conversely, the project continues at full intensity. In Egypt, the army is under the burden of the current security, and this is reflected in the loss of control in the Sinai, and making the border with Israel into borders of terrorism, and the potential to fall under the control of an Islamic Sinai. In Jordan, King (Abdullah II) is facing difficult challenges, and Israel should make sure that the borders remain a borders of peace".

He pointed out that "in Syria the rule of President Bashar Assad tends to end his role in Syrian history, and if it remains, it does not remain the Assad himself, and no certainty that he will be able to get out of the limits of his state. In Lebanon, Hezbollah is enhanced in the arms of the rule, but he never lost his desire to harm Israel, and relations with Turkey is not at its best. This leads us to conclude that the process of long-term increased risk of total war".

Eisenberg revealed that in the last round of fighting with the Gaza Strip, shows that the Palestinian organizations in the sector have new means of combat, what requires to demand from the public to take precautions. He said "We have discovered a new means of fighting because we asked the public to hide under two and not under one roof", without elaborating what are these new weapons.

And noted that "The quarter of local authorities in Israel are not ready for emergency cases, adding that his visits are unannounced in order to identify deficiencies.

He concluded by warning of the coming confrontation as he said, "we may find ourselves in a situation where there are the internal front in the confrontation, but not the border. Firing rockets at us and we respond by planes. The internal strength will decide the outcome of the next war".

Political angry sources replied on the speech by saying that  Eisenberg is "heating the front", and accused him of being "of disclosing confidential information in his assessment of the situation". Officers said that "It is not clear why the General is heating the front, why revealing classified intelligence information about the new capabilities of the Palestinians". These officers demanded the Chief General Benny Gantz, to "control his genera".

Eisenberg statements raised an uproar forced the Minister of Defense Ehud Barak to comment on it, trying to calm the atmosphere. He said that "no fear of a soon war. There is no change in the assessment of the national situation. We are ready for all possibilities, and it does not appear that any of our enemies will fight us, or uses in the war against us non-conventional weapons, if he has". In the Turkish issue, "We should calm the situation and take balanced decisions of the head and not the abdomen. I believe that therapy is right and by proper dialogue we can reach to improve relations". Said Barak

Also the political security crew chief in the Defense Ministry, General Amos Gilad had to respond to Eisenberg. Saying to the Army Radio "we will not live in the case of war. There is no such a scenario. Consideration should be given to the overall picture cooly. I can not downplay the threats, but all-out war is not the situation on the ground, the situation is improving".
