Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian announced early Tuesday that his ministry summoned an official from the Swiss Embassy in Tehran.
"An important message was sent to the American government as a supporter of the Zionist regime. America must be held accountable," Amir-Abdollahian said on X.
His remarks came after a top commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and six other officers were killed in a missile strike targeting the Iranian consulate in Damascus on Monday.
The missile strike reportedly targeted a building that served as the Iranian Embassy's consular affairs department as well as the residence of the Iranian ambassador.
Iran’s Ambassador to Syria Hossein Akbari and his family were unhurt.
Many countries, including Russia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Oman condemned the attack, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
