Red Crescent calls for delivery of aids into Gaza amid imminent famine

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has warned that thousands of civilians in Gaza are at the risk of imminent starvation urging for delivery of humanitarian aid into the besieged Strip.

PRCS noted that air humanitarian aid did not meet the necessary needs to reduce hunger rates in northern Gaza Strip.

It also called for opening the crossings and bringing aid into all areas of the Gaza Strip, stressing that the occupation deliberately and continuously targets relief crews.

An international report, published yesterday, warned of the continued high risk of famine throughout the Gaza Strip, in light of the continuing war and restrictions on humanitarian access, noting that about 96% of Gaza’s population face high levels of acute food insecurity.

The report titled “Integrated Food Security Phase Classification” warned that the entire Gaza Strip is classified as being in a state of emergency, which is the fourth stage of the classification that precedes famine, the fifth stage.

Meanwhile the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that a high risk of famine persists across Gaza as long as the conflict continues.

“1 in 5 people in Gaza experience an extreme lack of food. Almost all people in the Strip face high levels of acute food insecurity,” he said in a post on X.

He emphasized that only an end to the hostilities and immediate, unimpeded and sustained humanitarian access can reduce the risk of a famine occurring in the Gaza Strip.”
