Lebanese minister warns of another war by Israeli regime

Lebanese caretaker foreign minister has warned that another Israeli war against Lebanon will have repercussions for the entire region.

“From this platform, we renew our warning against miscalculation, playing on the edge of the abyss, and dragging the entire region into a major explosion,” Abdullah Bou Habib told a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday.

The Israeli regime has been waging sporadic attacks on southern Lebanon since October 7, when it started a genocidal war against the Gaza Strip.
The attacks have sparked a firefight with the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, which fought off two Israeli wars against the country in 2000 and 2006.

Over the past months, the regime has repeatedly threatened to expand the war against Gaza, which has killed at least 38,794 Palestinians so far, to Lebanon.

“We have heard dozens of statements issued by senior Israeli officials threatening to burn Lebanon, destroy it, and return it to the Stone Age,” Bou Habib likewise said.

He, however, asserted, “From this platform, we reiterate our rejection of war, and our tireless efforts through our contacts and meetings to avoid falling into the trap of Israeli recklessness seeking to continue the war and expand its geographical scope.”

“This war, if it occurs, will shake the entire Middle East, and will cross geography, and will lead to a new displacement crisis, from which Europe will not be spared,” he cautioned.

Proposing a means of de-escalation of tensions across the region, Bou Habib urged implementation of the United Nations’ resolutions that have mandated taking place of a ceasefire in the Israeli war on Gaza.
