Egypt condemned today the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by hundreds of colonists and far-right Israeli ministers Itamar Ben Gvira and Yitzhak Wasserlauf, in addition to members of the Knesset (Israel’s Parliament).

The statement slammed these irresponsible and provocative actions as a violation of international law and the historical and legal status quo in the city of Jerusalem.
Egypt also affirmed the need to maintain the legal status quo of the city.
The statement further underscored the need for the international community to play an active role in confronting those violations aimed at scuttling efforts made to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.
 Egypt affirmed its commitment to seeking a just, lasting and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian State on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the full realization of the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
