In addition to the ambassador’s condition, recent reports indicate that at least 1,000 people in Lebanon have been injured as a result of pager explosions.
The explosions occurred simultaneously or in rapid succession across various regions in Lebanon, allegedly triggered by hacking into the communication devices.
The pagers, which are typically worn on belts, reportedly exploded due to battery malfunctions. The most common injuries are to the abdomen, kidneys, thighs, and liver. Medical sources revealed that hospitals in the area are overwhelmed, with no capacity left to admit more patients. The Ministry of Health has been urged to equip additional hospitals to handle the influx of casualties.
Some of the injured are in critical condition, and there are fears that the death toll could rise. Similar incidents have also been reported in Syria, where 80 people have been injured.
The pagers involved are said to have been recently purchased from the American company Motorola. Speculation is mounting that a powerful radio frequency may have caused the explosions, while others suggest the possibility of explosive materials being embedded in the batteries by the manufacturer.
In a televised statement, Israeli media have hinted that the Israeli regime might be behind these explosions.
